SUNG MIN LEE, Korean Installation artist

Detailed shot of the stitched together fabric belly buttons

2009-2010

I and Sung Min Lee were in the same studio residency at Chashama studios, and now we have begun good friends through art, and conversation. She has been creating installations for few years now. This project, "Connected"  was researched, and developed by taking photos of strangers' belly buttons around New York City specifically tourists, and locals at Washington Square Park. She has shown at Space Womb Contemporary Art Gallery which is located across the street from the MOMA PS 1.

A solo exhibition of Nuez’s photographs will be featured at the Condé Nast building lobby, located at 4 Times Square in Manhattan, NY, that runs from March 3 to April 18, 2011. The opening reception is Thursday, March 3 from 6-8pm; the artist will be present. The show will feature fifteen 32x40 and 44x55-inch Ultrachrome prints.

Nuez shoots his photographs with 50-year-old Hasselblad film cameras. To capture the vivid colors in his images, he brings battery-powered lighting equipment and colored gels that are combined with long exposures - sometimes more than one-hour.
